Today there are many car rental companies but in its infancy, rental car companies were a luxury and only a few companies existed. Agencies were located in large metropolitan cities, not at airports like they are today and there were few companies that branched out internationally. This changed with Avis Rent A Car.
Avis Rent A Car was one of the first rental car agencies and it started with an aggressive business plan which proved successful. Avis has maintained its status as an industry leader and, in many ways, has kept an edge on the competition. Here is a short history of Avis and how they revolutionized the car rental industry.
Small Beginnings
Warren Avis opened Avis Rent A Car in Detroit, Michigan at the Willow Run Airport in 1946. With less than $100,000 he opened the first car rental business located at an airport; a risky move with a considerable amount of money at the time. He wanted to grow fast while providing excellent customer service. Warren Avis’ marketing plan was successful and he soon opened a rental office at the Miami Airport. He decided to expand his business internationally and soon started selling Avis franchises in Canada, Mexico and Europe. His company was making money and expanding rapidly.
Avis Sells
Warren Avis had created a successful business based on a revolutionary idea. He sold his business in 1954 to a Boston businessman for $8 million; a staggering profit in less than 10 years. The Avis name had established itself in the US and worldwide and become a respected company. Therefore, the Avis name remained and even after changing hands many times, continues on even today.
Growing Fast
Avis Rent A Car opened up its European headquarters in Britain in 1960. In just a short time it had become an international company owned by a large holding company. The holding company soon branched out and developed additional business interests.
In 1963 Avis adopted the slogan “We Try Harder” and developed an ad campaign around it. It proved to be such a successful slogan that it continues on today and has become one of the most recognized in the industry.
Avis Today
Now Avis Rent A Car is one of the most widely known and respected rental agencies in the world. From the meager beginnings of a rental agency at one airport to a multi-million dollar company, Avis has proved that its strategy has worked and continues to do so.
Next time you rent a car, rent with one of the most recognized and successful rental companies. To book a car, call their reservation department or book online. You’ll see why they have been so successful and why customers keep coming back.

The Acura RDX is one of the most popular options available at Acura of Tempe. Crossover vehicles in general are becoming increasingly more popular. And the Acura RDX stands apart from the rest with a unique combination of design and performance that takes it to a level unmatched in the industry. This luxury crossover is one that the competition doesn’t have to stand aside for; it’s already passed by the competition!
The Acura RDX has an unusually universal appeal. Its high functionality makes it a practical choice. Its sporty look makes it a fun choice. And its luxurious features make it the comfortable choice. It’s the first factory Acura to offer a turbocharged engine; it’s built for great road performance. You definitely get the look of the SUV with great on road handling; which is the purpose of the Crossover vehicle!
The Acura RDX has been compared to the Honda CR-V. There is almost no mechanical similarity and the RDX offers more luxury features, design and higher levels of performance. The RDX features the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 240 hp and 260 lb/ft of torque. This crossover is so beautifully engineered that it rides like a sport sedan. It offers a smooth, thrilling ride and has been known to hit 60 mph from 0 in approximately 6 seconds.
Drivers of the Acura RDX appreciate the standard five speed automatic transmission and the Super Handling All Wheel Drive System. The inclusion of this technology means that power is continuously distributed among all 4 wheels to provide the best handling and to prevent traction loss incidents in wet weather. Visit www.AcuraDealerTempe.com for more information on the Acura RDX’s Super Handling All Wheel Drive technology.
The Acura RDX offers more standout features when it comes to safety. Some of the most advanced safety features available have been included in the RDX design: vehicle stability assist, surrounding airbags, ABS, electronic brake distribution, and advanced compatibility engineering. The target market for the RDX is a wide one when it comes to age definitions. The younger generation is drawn to the sporty look and the older generation is reassured by the wide range of high quality safety features.
Acura also took advantage of a few technological advances for the RDX design not directly related to safety! Drivers will find they appreciate the full display navigation w/real time traffic, voice recognition and Bluetooth. Everyone in the vehicle will appreciate the surround sound, personalized settings, and dual-zone/GPS link temperature controls as well as power windows, locks and moon roof. And that’s not even a complete list of the luxury and comfort design features included in the RDX!
While the Acura RDX has been compared to similar small crossover vehicles such as the Honda CR-V, the truth is; the RDX surpasses them with performance, handling, luxury, comfort and more. To learn more about the Acura RDX or to get a great deal on the RDX in the Phoenix, Arizona area visit Acura of Tempe online at www.AcuraDealerTempe.com.

One of the most mysterious myths of ancient Egypt was the legend of the Phoenix. Rundle Clark in explains the relationship of the bennu bird to the phoenix and the symbolism it was intended to invoke.
Clark: “One has to imagine a roost extending out from the deep of the Abyss. On it rests a herald (a grey heron) of all things to come. It opens its beak and breaks the quiet of the dawn with the call of life and destiny, which ‘determines what is to be and what is not’…
The Phoenix embodies the original Word of God (Logos) or declaration of fate which moderates between the God-mind and created things…In a sense, when the phoenix gave out the primeval call it put into motion the cycles of the calander. So it is the father of all divisions of time, and its temple at Heliopolis became the centre of calendrical regulation.”
The notion that the phoenix is closely connected to the Great Pyramid as the epoch and time keeper of pharaonic kingship as was suspected is confirmed. This is true in both a mystical and historical sense. The shafts in the kings chamber point toward specific stars and fixed their processional cycles and other cycles.
The Phoenix and the Great Pyramid as timekeepers of the stars of Orion and, by extension, the soul of the Osiris kings, clearly shows forth the connection. This is underscored by this quote from the book of the dead, “Who is he?” …I am the great phoenix which is Heliopolis. (See chapter 17)
The phoenix, according to Rundle Clark, was a great cosmic bird (UFO?) which came from a distant magical land beyond this world; a place called the Isle of fire. it was a place of eternal light far beyond the limits of what was known. It was the place where gods were born and from where they were sent to this world.

Unfortunately there are many unpleasant experiences with dogs and kids. Some kids don’t like dogs; some dogs don’t like kids; and sometimes the feeling is mutual. If you have kids and also want a dog, you may worry that they won’t be compatible which is why training a dog for children is key. Since the last thing you want is a bad-tempered dog that isn’t safe to be around kids, you might consider giving up the idea of obtaining a dog altogether.
Luckily you shouldn’t have to forgo getting a dog just because you are afraid it won’t get along with your kids. You may have a dog that gets along quite well with your kids and one that your kids will love! Most dogs are well tempered and enjoy playing with children, the key is to pick one that likes kids in the first place.
Training a dog for children is not hard. However, it requires teaching the right behavior to both dog and children. You need to make sure your dog does not bite or nip - a task which may be a bit harder with a puppy as this behavior is natural to them. You should also be sure the dog is trained not to jump up as a large dog jumping on a small child can frighten the child and even cause injury.
A dog that does not display unnecessarily aggressive behavior is a good idea if there will be small children in the home. If they have a calm and easy demeanor they will be more easily trained to play and cooperate with your children and you. Children must also know that the new dog is not a plaything; it is never a good idea to subject a new dog to unusual rough play as they may become violent or scared. Your dog should not feel the need to defend itself by biting your child nor should they fear your child.
Although it’s extremely important to teach your children to be gentle and thoughtful with your new dog, you should not leave him unsupervised with very young children. The best way to acquaint them and help them form a compatible relationship would be to let your kids and new dog gradually get used to each other while you are present.
When deciding on a dog your prospective dog’s personality should play an important role if you also have young children. Training a dog for children is easy if the dog has a sweet personality. If you have really small children, you might want a smaller dog. A dog that is both energetic and can be controlled is a good match for a home with older children.
