All cigars dry up after a certain period of time if not cared for. Same law applies to Cuban cigars. Lets say you got a box of Cuban cigars, placed it in your house and went for a business trip. Once you come back, you realize that you forgot about your little beauties and when you run back to that secret place your find out that your Cuban cigars are literally dying.

Even though they were in the humidor at the time, without recharging it, it may not have kept the relative humidity that was necessary to keep them moist. What you end up with is a box of dry, unusable cigars. But are they actually unusable?

However, don’t worry at all because their are several ways of bringing that Cuban cigar to life. Some methods are better than others but the rule of thumb should be never try to do it with lots of water. Lots of water is bad for your cigar as extra moisture can expand the tobacco and your cigar. The idea is to slowly hydrate it and in a very slow manner. Most likely you’ll be able to bring your cigars to life but if its too late than its really too late. Take it as a lesson learned and never ever forget about your Cuban cigars. Experts suggest smoking them as soon as you get it while you have the chance because each cigar should be experienced to the fullest. I love smoking Cohiba Robustos on my patio with some wine.

A fast way to get the right amount of moisture in your cigar is to put it in a plastic bag with some cedar linings out of a cigar box. You know those thin sheets on top of each cigar box, those cedar sheets. Leave the bag sealed for a few days and run a check to see how hydrated they’ve become. Don’t get too excited as this is not the cure for Cuban cigars left in the dark for quite sometime, but this will definitely get the ball rolling.

If you’re wondering how to rehydrate cigar because of them totally drying out, the process is a lot different. You need to take a container of some sort that is able to be totally sealed. One of the most popular that is used is a Tupperware container but you need to pick one that is flat on the bottom and has plenty of surface space. Go to your local cigar store and pick up some cedar liners, which they will probably give you for free.

So get that humidor recharged and place that container sealed up in the humidor. This will bring your cigars back to life in four weeks or so. Keep an eye on your humidor because if its not charged properly it won’t work. Give it the time and your cigars should be ready to smoke again.

3 Major Types of Intestinal Worms in Cats

Your cat may have worms, but there is no need to panic. Worms in cats are very common, especially in kittens. Typically, your vet will test your cat annually via a stool sample.

Worms are intestinal parasites and may or may not cause visible signs of illness. Worms use your cat as a host in order to get nourishment, reproduce, and complete their lifecycle. There are a number of cat parasites, including a few major classes of worms.

The main types of intestinal worms in cats are hookworm, roundworm, and tapeworm. Fecal examinations are done as a diagnostic.

Cats in the same household are also nice enough to share worm infestations with each other. Normally, if a fecal sample from one of the cats tests positive, your vet will want to treat the whole crowd.

Below is an overview on each of the major types of worms found in cats.

Roundworms - Roundworms (Toxocara Cati) look like spaghetti, and are usually only visible when vomited up. Kittens can become infected with roundworm via their mothers. This is the case even if the mother cat shows no signs of infection. The encysted form of the roundworm lies dormant in the mother cat, and is passed to the kitten. Usually, even if test results are negative, veterinarians will worm kittens 2-3 times to be sure.

As a cat matures, a natural immunity develops against this worm. As a result, adult cats rarely experience roundworm infestations severe enough to cause illness.

Hookworms - Hookworms literally “hook” themselves to the inside wall of your cat’s intestines. Since hookworms are tissue feeders, they can cause blood loss, which results in anemia. Other symptoms may include intestinal illness, poor hair coat, and weight loss. The good news concerning hookworms is that most of the roundworm treatments will also kill hookworms. You should note that at least two treatments are needed to rid your cat of this worm.

Tapeworms - Tapeworms consist of a series of segments. The segments contain eggs and as they drop off the worm they are passed in the stool. You’ll sometimes notice them around a cat’s anus or in a high traffic area. They look like grains of rice. They sometimes cause your cat to lick excessively or create anal irritation.

It’s important to control fleas. The flea ingests the tapeworm eggs and then your cat eats the flea. The tapeworm then lives in the intestinal tract of your cat and then produces, you guessed it, more tapeworms.

Usually these worms do not cause any visible symptoms of illness in your cat. You cannot properly address the tapeworm issue without also addressing the flea problem, or you risk the possibility that your cat will get them again.

Intestinal worms in cats can be present without any sign of visible illness. Since cat parasites put undue stress on your kitty, you should do what you can to keep his/her immune system strong. That includes not only regular vet visits, but also high quality food, regular exercise, and the room to explore.
